Richard, Makaay had a good first year at Feyenoord last season, considering… The team needed some work, although Van Marwijk coached the club to the top ranks in the first half season. However, due to his early marriage to the Dutch National team and some injuries (Slory, Bruins, Vlaar, De Cler and others) Feyenoord sort of tumbled in the second season’s half. Makaay did ok, he is not the type of player to take the team by the hand and “push” them forward. Makaay has always depended on quality service and he didn’t get that much. He started injured this season and the Ajax game was the first he played for Feyenoord. Missing a huge chance, I might add.
