AZ train back on the rails!
By: Jan | October 5th, 2008
If the AZ train was off the rails, it’s clear that it’s back on the tracks. The Club from Alkmaar crushed Sparta ( 6-0 ) and jumped to the fourth spot in the standings.
And the way they did it wasn’t a reflection of a club on the rebounce, but a team eager to win a prize! Remember, they trashed Willem 2 earlier on with five goals difference. It doesn’t look to be remarkable, but in the last season AZ never (!) won twice in a row…
Last year, the forwards failed. AZ only scored 48 goals in 34 games. This year around, they already scored almost one quarter of last year’s total.
The two young strikers, signed before last season, Pelle and Ari are relegated to the bench. Most impressive this year is the cooperation between Belgium sensation Dembele, El Hamdaoui and Demy de Zeeuw in their back. The playmaker passed the ball to El Hamdaoui last night in the first 20 seconds, offering the striker his first goal of the match.
El Hamdaoui is back after a nasty injury. The Moroccan striker shows hunger and form. He is seriously considered for the Moroccan National Team but could also decide to play for Oranje.
The Sparta players could only watch how the AZ train rushed past, with Demy de Zeeuw the man with the accelerator. And no one had a stop sign on him.
Every next strike was more beautiful than the one before it, with Dembele scoring, De Zeeuw with another assist on Swerts and again Dembele on De Zeeuw’s third assist.
In this form, Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV will have to look in their rear view mirror again, to see the AZ Express thundering forwards…
